Where to Celebrate the Holidays
November 30 2017

We all know how tough Illinois winters can be. But the best reason for putting up with the freezing temperatures is the holiday season. From Chicago to Galena and everywhere in between, our beloved state knows how to celebrate. Not sure where to start? We've rounded up some of the most festive events Illinois has to offer.
Enjoy Holiday Classics
There are some Illinois traditions that just can't be missed when you want to get into the holiday spirit. Inspired by a market in Nuremberg, Germany, that began in 1545, Chicago's Christkindlmarket has everything from cuckoo clocks and wooden handicrafts to authentic German food and beverages such as sausage and Gluhwein, a traditional hot spiced wine. The Morton Arboretum in Lisle wows visitors with its 50 acres of illuminated trees, where guests wind their way along a one-mile path through the magical treescape.
Bring the Whole Family
Looking for something to keep the kids busy while they're out of school? Chicago offers myriad options to entertain the whole family. Skating at Millennium Park's ice rink has become a tried-and-true tradition over the years, while the indoor Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier provides a warm space for when you want to get away from the cold.
Head Out West
Charming Galena, near the banks of the Mississippi River and the Iowa border, provides the perfect backdrop for holiday celebrations. Visitors can enjoy events such as the Festival of Trees, Holiday Fire in the Sky, and Night of the Luminaria and Living Windows.
No matter where or how you celebrate, we hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and warm this holiday season.
